The user, who claimed to be living in the city for the past few years, shared her struggles in house hunting in Bengaluru. She said that while the rent for 2BHK is around ₹60,000, it also comes with an additional maintenance charge and a hefty security deposit that can range between ₹3-8 million.
Struggle to find a rental house in Bengaluru
User Anamika from @theluxycouple_ar posted a video on Instagram about the problems she faced when looking for a rental house in the city.
She elaborated, “Finding a house in Bengaluru is like… maybe you can find God, but a house… I’m not sure. For the past three weeks we’ve been walking… like, because we work from home, we don’t have any specific area or place to look for. So that’s also a problem, but even if we’re like spending a week in each area, even then we haven’t found an apartment, but they’re not helping…”
Anamika claimed that despite living in Bengaluru for the past four to five years, she became more familiar with the city and its areas and streets only after looking for a house.
“Now, I have been staying in Bengaluru for the last four to five years and I didn’t know much about Bengaluru until now. A few places I knew about, but now, because of home hunting, I really know Bengaluru now. I can specifically name area by area, name by name, like lanes everywhere we look for homes,” she added.
₹60,000 s ₹5000- ₹Maintenance 7000
The woman talked about the high amounts of rent and security deposit that landlords charge with additional maintenance fees. “And the rent and security deposit are insane! 60,000 for a 2BHK – and 60,000 rent plus 5,000 to 7,000 is for maintenance and the deposit is around 5,000, 3,000, 8,000 and so on.”
In the caption, Anamika further claimed that no one disputes why rent prices are so high in Bengaluru. While people are prepared to pay whatever they are charged, she said families end up paying more than bachelors.
“People give what they want. No one questions why it’s so high. The problem is that families have to pay so much, while bachelors can still get by paying a reasonable amount for one room in a good house or good company.”
