The IMD has forecast a rainy season in coastal Andhra Pradesh till September 23

Northern parts of Andhra Pradesh received light to moderate showers while isolated stations in other parts of the state recorded rain on Saturday as a low pressure area formed over the Andaman Sea.

Between 8:30 am and 7:00 pm, Srinivas Colony area of ​​Salur mandal in Parvathipuram Manyam district received the highest rainfall of 63 mm for the day, followed by Narsipatnam, Nathavaram, Chodavaram, Kasimkota and Ravikamatham mandals which recorded rain in the range of 39 mm to 59 mm.

Gotlagattu of Markapuram district, Isakapalli of SPSR Nellore district, Unguturu of Eluru district, Velanka of Kakinada district and Nemalikallu of Palnadu district also recorded light rain, between 55 mm and 32 mm.

According to the India Meteorological Department, Amaravati, the low pressure area is likely to intensify into a depression over east-central Bay of Bengal on September 21 and into a depression over west-central Bay of Bengal on September 22. It is likely to reach the west-central and adjacent north-west Bay of Bengal, near the south coast of Odisha-north, Andhra Pradesh23.

IMD has predicted isolated heavy rain in coastal AP on 20th and 21st September, isolated very heavy rain for the same area on 22nd and 23rd September. Thunderstorms and strong winds reaching 40-60 km/h are likely in isolated places across the state until September 23.

The AP State Disaster Management Authority has warned the public and advised people living in low-lying areas to take precautionary measures. As the sea is likely to be very rough, fishermen who ventured out to sea were advised to return to shore immediately.
