Delhi is braced for traffic restrictions on Tuesday evening as authorities conduct a Motor Carcade trial ahead of the 2026 BRICS summit.
The Delhi Traffic Police on Monday issued a notification that diversions and regulated traffic movement will be in place on key routes during the exam on September 8 from 7:45 pm to 10 pm.
In a post on X, the Delhi Traffic Police said, “Due to the motorcade test on 8th September 2026 from 7:45 PM to 10:00 PM, traffic diversions and regulated movement will be implemented on key routes in Delhi.
•Commuters are advised to plan their journeys in advance, allow for extended travel time, use public transport, particularly the metro, and follow designated diversion routes and instructions from transport staff.
•Emergency and essential service vehicles will have priority passage.
The test is part of security and traffic preparations being put in place in the country’s capital for the upcoming BRICS summit.
Delhi Traffic Alert: What commuters need to know
As regulated movement is expected on key routes during the trial, the traffic police have asked commuters to allow for additional travel time and plan their journeys in advance.
The recommendation further recommends using public transport, especially the metro, and following designated diversion routes and instructions from transport staff.

According to the traffic police, emergency vehicles and essential services will have priority.
NDMC is intensifying preparations on 41 key routes
Apart from traffic measures, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has intensified civic preparations in areas where movement of VIP delegates is expected.
NDMC vice-chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal said on Sunday that officials are monitoring 41 key routes, including major roads used by VIP delegates and their roundabouts, on a zone-by-zone basis.
Speaking to ANI, Chahal said the preparations also include decorative lighting at 17 major roundabouts along with cleanliness and lighting arrangements around the 11 hotel complexes where the guests will stay.

NDMC Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal said, “…We are monitoring 41 key routes, including major roads used by VIP delegates and their roundabouts, on a zone-by-zone basis. Preparations include installing decorative lights on 17 major roundabouts and ensuring cleanliness and lighting around 11 hotel complexes where guests will be staying. ND0MC has illuminated 1 of its own buildings.”
More than 15,000 flower pots located in key locations
The civic association is also adding floral displays, fountains and other visual installations at several locations in preparation for the summit.
Chahal said that more than 15,000 flower pots have been deployed in more than 15 locations along with digital and outdoor branding.

“We have deployed flower displays, fountains and more than 15,000 flower pots at more than 15 locations along with digital and outdoor branding. Besides, all electric poles and street lights have been checked and fully functional. Sanitation teams are working round the clock in all zones,” added Chahal.
The NDMC vice-chairman also said preparations have been made for key commercial areas and markets for the summit guests to visit.
Khan Market, Connaught Place among the prepared areas
According to Chahal, areas including Khan Market, Malcha Marg and Connaught Place have undergone preparations and routine maintenance and hygiene measures have been organised.
“We have made comprehensive preparations for key commercial areas and markets such as Khan Market, Malcha Marg and Connaught Place, which guests are likely to visit. Routine maintenance, including mechanized sweeping and road washing, is also fully organised. Misting systems have been installed at five locations, including Lodhi Road, Tilak Marg and Africa Avenue. We have ensured that the area remains completely pump-free on Baba Khaslogging. Marg and other identified vulnerable places…” he added.
India to host BRICS summit in New Delhi
The Motor Carcade trial is part of preparations for the 2026 BRICS Summit, with security and traffic arrangements being coordinated in Delhi.
As the BRICS 2026 Chair, India will host the 18th BRICS Summit on September 12-13 at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
The summit will bring together leaders of BRICS member and partner countries along with invited participants.
