Delhi Traffic Advisory: Major detours today for BRICS convoy trials; check routes to the airport, train station | Today’s news
The Delhi Traffic Police has issued a comprehensive alert on Tuesday, September 1, in view of the full-scale trials for the upcoming BRICS Summit.
Commuters are likely to experience heavily regulated traffic and should expect route diversions between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM through New Delhi’s high-security VVIP corridors.
In an X post on Monday, the Delhi Traffic Police advised commuters to plan their journeys in advance – “Allow extra travel time, use public transport – especially the metro – and follow diversion routes and instructions from traffic staff.”
Affected routes
Traffic will be restricted or temporarily stopped on major central corridors including Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Mathura Road, Janpath, Ashoka Road and Shanti Path.

Alternative routes: Airport and railway station
To avoid significant delays, traffic police have suggested that commuters to major transit hubs allow significant extra time and follow designated alternative routes.
Delhi Metro is strongly recommended for all journeys to the airport and the city during the advisory window.
Emergency access
- Medical and basic services: Ambulances, rescue vehicles and vehicles transporting essential supplies will always be given priority unobstructed passage through all zones.
- Commercial vehicles: Commercial vehicles are not allowed beyond Ram Charan Aggarwal Chowk (A-Point) towards W-Point.
- Strict parking rules: Roadside parking of all vehicles is strictly prohibited within 200 meters of controlled roads and parking is permitted only in authorized facilities.
