Residents of Delhi woke up to heavy rains, thunderstorms and gusty winds on Saturday, September 5, as a fresh spell of rain hit the nation’s capital. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the capital. Adverse weather conditions the previous day caused waterlogging and snarling traffic at several locations, disrupting vehicular movement and daily life across the region.
On Friday, Palam recorded the highest rainfall of 84 mm, followed by Lodhi Road, which received 38.6 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending September 5 at 8:30 am.

In its latest weather report, the IMD predicted: “Generally cloudy skies. One or two spells of light to moderate rain at many places accompanied by thundershower/thunderstorm from early morning till morning. Another spell of light to moderate rain at few places accompanied by thundershower/thundershower in afternoon to evening.”
Maximum and minimum temperature
The maximum and minimum temperatures in Delhi are likely to settle anywhere between 29°C to 31°C and 24°C to 26°C. The minimum temperature is expected to be close to normal and may fluctuate by -1.5°C to 1.5°C at most places, while maximum temperatures may settle at -1.6°C to -3.0°C below normal at most places over Delhi.
Delhi traffic police problems counseling
The Delhi Traffic Police has issued a travel advisory, warning commuters of traffic disruption. In a post on X, the Delhi Traffic Police said, “Traffic movement may be affected at various places in Delhi due to temporary waterlogging following rain and rehearsals in connection with the upcoming BRICS summit.”
He urged commuters to refrain from parking their vehicles under bridges, underpasses or in waterlogged areas.
