Uttar Pradesh cadre IAS officer Divya Mittal has retired from the Indian Administrative Service after 13 years of service. She announced her resignation in a lengthy post on X where she talked about her decision. The 2013 batch officer has served as District Magistrate in three districts of the state.

“Today I have voluntarily resigned from the IAS, ending an unforgettable journey of 13 years,” Divya Mittal said.
“I grew up in a humble environment and dreamed of a good and successful life. After burning the midnight oil to study at IIT Delhi and IIM Bangalore, I got a job in London. But even though I had achieved ‘everything’, something still felt incomplete. It touched me that I was away from my country. My education, my confidence, the strength to walk for it was a debt to this land – all of it was a debt to the world. I wanted my handprints on bricks to build the India I dreamed of, so I came back and was lucky enough to become an IAS officer,” she added.
Reason for resignation
However, the IAS officer did not clarify the reason behind his exit from his post. Amidst this, several reports speculated that the popular IAS officer is likely to enter politics. Live Mint could not independently verify this claim.
Who is Divya Mittal? Education from top institutes
Hailing from Rewari, Haryana, Divya Mittal completed her BTech from IIT Delhi and went on to do her MBA at IIM Bangalore. After her MBA, Mittal moved to London for a job at JPMorgan.
In 2011, Mittal left her corporate life to return to India and prepare for the UPSC Civil Services exam.
She made her first attempt at the UPSC exam in 2012 and qualified for the Indian Police Service. In 2013, she reappeared and cleared again, secured 68th rank and joined IAS.
During his tenure, Divya Mittal served as District Magistrate of Sant Kabir Nagar, Mirzapur and Deoria in Uttar Pradesh. At the time of her resignation, Mittal was appointed as Special Secretary in the Ministry of State Administration Revenue.
Talking about her contributions, Mittal mentioned in her X post, “Deoria taught me that standing up for what is right is not an option but a duty. Mirzapur taught me that ‘impossible’ is not a fact but an opinion.”
What awaits her next?
Divya Mittal has not officially announced her next career move. She has not yet confirmed or denied rumors about her entry into politics.
She told ThePrint: “Nothing triggered me. I just thought for the last few months that I was done with this job. I had no plans for the future. I will talk about it when the time comes.”
However, the state government has not yet officially received her resignation.
“We have not yet received her resignation,” a senior official told news agency PTI. After formal receipt of the letter, appropriate action will reportedly be taken.
