CJP calls for release of protesters arrested in Assam, West Bengal, Bihar; warns of legal action if promises are not fulfilled | Today’s news
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Monday expressed concern over the arrests of protesters in Assam, West Bengal and Bihar. The Abhijeet Deepak-led organization urged the government to live up to its assurance, which was agreed during talks with Union ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh on Saturday.
CJP spokesperson Saurav Das issued a statement in this regard on July 27, saying, “We are deeply concerned about the numerous reports reaching us of students and other protesters being targeted, detained or arrested by various state authorities, particularly in Assam, West Bengal and Bihar. He suggested that the Cockroach Janta Party call off its nationwide protest on the condition that the government at the Center led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not take any punitive action against any protester, he said, “Therefore, the reports emerging from these states are of grave concern.
Warning of legal action, the CJP gave an ultimatum and demanded a written guarantee that the commitments made would be honoured. It asked the BJP-led government to provide a written assurance by Tuesday, July 28, 2026. Saurav Das further stressed that any deviation from the assurance would be a “breach of trust” for thousands of young Indians who chose dialogue over protests.

“First, we want to assure every protester that our legal team is already coordinating with brilliant lawyers in the affected states to secure the release of those detained and extend all possible legal assistance. This has been happening since Day 1.”
Secondly, we call on the Government of India, especially @JPNadda ji and @DrJitendraSingh ji, to immediately live up to the assurances given to us by securing the release of those detained and ordering that no coercive or retaliatory action be taken against any protester anywhere in the country. FIRs registered should also be withdrawn.
The Government of India is also reminded of its commitment to provide us with a written assurance in this regard by tomorrow, Tuesday 28 July 2026.
Our decision to call off the nationwide protest was taken in good faith and solely on the basis of the government’s assurance that it would stand by. Any deviation from this assurance would not only amount to a breach of trust in the Swabi Janta Party, but would also be a breach of the public trust of thousands of young Indians who preferred dialogue to protest.
Such breach of trust will be totally unacceptable to the youth.
The Government of India is reminded that it derives credibility not from a mere promise, but from the promises it keeps.
We say to the young protesters, hold on. We are with you. The CJP continues to monitor the situation closely and expects the Government of India and all BJP/NDA state governments to act with utmost urgency, responsibility and good faith as the current circumstances require. We demand that all those detained/arrested be released immediately, in any case by tomorrow, and that all FIRs be withdrawn immediately, failing which we will take further necessary action.”
The CJP called off its agitation on 25 July after Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan tendered his resignation. However, the withdrawal was conditional on the understanding that the agreed conditions would be met within the agreed deadline. This announcement ended the campaign that started at Jantar Mantar on June 20. The youth-led organization also secured government commitments to compensate affected families and withdraw criminal cases filed against protesters.
CJP demanded compensation ₹1 crore for the families of NEET victims besides reviewing the five-point charter on investigation reforms. The next round of negotiations is scheduled for four weeks.
