Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal took to social media to flag a fake AI-generated video of his statement delivered outside Parliament. He claimed his remarks to the media were “maliciously” altered in the clip to spread misinformation.
Goyal said he lodged a police complaint and an FIR (No. 123/26) was registered at the Chanakyapuri police station on Saturday.

“My remarks to the media outside Parliament were deliberately faked using AI to create and distribute a deeply fake video in an attempt to spread misinformation,” wrote Piyush Goyal on X.

“I filed a police complaint and an FIR (No. 123/26) was registered at Chanakyapuri police station at 4:35 am on 25 July 2026. Strict legal action will be taken against anyone involved in creating, circulating or spreading this fake video,” the minister added.
Goyal added that irresponsible misuse of AI to mislead the public cannot and will not be tolerated.
He therefore urged “everyone to rely only on verified and authentic sources of information”.
“I have every confidence that India’s aware and tech-savvy citizens, especially our youth, will not fall prey to such misinformation,” Goyal said.

“Many social media links have been removed”
Many social media links related to the AI-generated deepfake video of Piyush Goyal have been removed, government sources told PTI on Saturday.
On Friday night, the PIB’s fact-checking unit also warned that Pakistani propaganda accounts were circulating a fake AI-generated video that falsely showed Union Minister Piyush Goyal making threatening remarks about protesting students.
On July 24, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said, “Prime Minister Modi has made it clear today that the strictest possible action will be taken. The culprits of such acts will be punished by setting up fast-track courts. There will be severe punishment and the government will take many more steps in this matter to fulfill the hopes and expectations of our young women.”
“We appeal to the Congress party and the opposition not to politicize the issue. Don’t run, discuss. We strongly condemn the opposition’s running away from discussion and its politicization. We appeal to everyone to maintain peace and at the same time fulfill their responsibility to resolve the issue through discussion… I hope Rahul Gandhi and his opposition friends will take care of the youth,” he said.

PIB also fact-checked the “deeply fake” video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It said the clip where PM Modi announced “tougher measures against paper leaks coming to cabinet tomorrow” was an altered “deep fake video generated by artificial intelligence”.
“Pakistani propaganda accounts are circulating a video of PM @narendramodi containing fabricated statements he never made regarding the Delhi protest,” PIB Factcheck posted on X.
The doctored videos emerged amid the ongoing student protests organized by the Cockroach Janata Party at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi over irregularities in the medical and competitive NEET examinations.

Protesters are demanding the resignation of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged paper leak cases and reforms in the education system.
