A light-hearted LinkedIn post by a CockroachDB employee went viral amid the ongoing Cockroach Janta Party protest against Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, as the user alleged that politicians were viewing his profile due to the similarity between the party’s name and his employer’s name.
Ankur Raina, who works as an employee sales executive at a software company, wrote in a LinkedIn post, “Some politicians are looking at my profile. I work for CockroachDB (Cockroach Labs). No affiliation with Cockroach Janta Party. Just making apps more resilient and scalable.”
CJP name confusion creates confusion
CockroachDB is a distributed SQL database developed by New York-based Cockroach Labs. Its name is inspired by the resilience of cockroaches, reflecting the database’s ability to remain reliable and available even in the face of failures or challenging conditions.
Cockroach Janta Party, on the other hand, is a political group founded by Abhijeet Dipek that started as an online joke but has since evolved into a youth-led political movement. CJP protests against Delhi Jantar Mantar and demands resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in NEET-UG paper leak.
Jantar Mantar protests dominate headlines
The party’s protest has dominated the headlines in recent days, with heavy police deployment in protest areas, activist Sonam Wangchuto joining the hunger strike and fresh talks between CJP leaders and the Centre.
The CJP on Friday maintained that Pradhan’s resignation remained her key demand during the latest round of discussions with the Centre. He was also looking for clothes ₹1 million as compensation to the families of aspirants who committed suicide after the cancellation of the NEET exam on May 3, 2026 as one of the “non-negotiable” demands.
With the CJP dominating both mainstream and social media conversations, it appears that some users, possibly including political staff, landed on the LinkedIn profiles of CockroachDB staff when searching for information about the party, leading Raina to clarify his employer.
