Union Ministers JP Nadda, Jitendra Singh visit Sonam Wangchuk at Medanta Hospital: Report | Today’s news
Union Health Minister JP Nadda and Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office Jitendra Singh visited activist Sonam Wangchuk at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram on Tuesday, hours after he was shifted there from Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi on the orders of the Delhi High Court.
According to PTI, the two Union ministers met Wangchuk at the hospital after he was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) under the supervision of Dr Sushila Kataria, a specialist in internal medicine.
Wangchuk was brought to Medanta by ambulance around 7.30pm amid tight security. The social activist’s treatment began under the care of a specialized medical team.
HC orders immediate transfer of Wangchuk from Safdarjung
Earlier in the day, the Delhi High Court ordered Wangchuk’s immediate transfer from Safdarjung Hospital to Medanta Hospital, where doctors with requisite expertise will monitor his condition.
The order came after Wangchuk’s wife Gitanjali Angmo moved the court demanding that he be transferred to a hospital of their choice. A division bench comprising Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay and Justice Tejas Karia accepted Solicitor General Tushar Mehta’s contention that the Center had no objection to the transfer.
The court also ordered Medanta Hospital to form a specialized medical team to oversee Wangchuk’s treatment and asked the activist to follow medical advice and remain under constant medical supervision. He noted that allowing the transfer would protect his fundamental rights under Articles 19 and 21 of the Constitution.
Vital parameters of Wangchuk stable
In a statement, Safdarjung Hospital said Wangchuk was discharged at 6.40pm and handed over to Medanta’s medical team in accordance with Supreme Court guidelines.
“At the time of discharge, his vital signs were stable. However, pancytopenia persisted and his serum potassium level was 3.4 mEq/L,” the statement said.
The hospital added that all medical records, investigation reports and treatment documents were shared with the receiving medical team to ensure continuity of care.
