Abhijeet Dipke was detained by the police from Jantar Mantar, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) announced on Monday, July 20.
“Dipke has been detained by the police. We request all MPs to immediately support the students on the streets,” CJP spokesperson Saurav Das said in a post on X.

Laster Das said in an updated post that Dipke was not detained or arrested.
Das and Ashutosh Ranka, another CJP spokesperson, met Union Minister JP Nadda amid the group’s protest march in central Delhi.
Security forces had earlier fired tear gas shells nearby Shastri Bhawan Here, several protesters tried to push through security barricades in an attempt to reach Jantar Mantar and join the Janta Cockroach Party’s march to Parliament on Monday, sources said.
The action came at a time of heightened tension in the high-security zone.
Heavy police deployment
Heavy deployment of police and paramilitary personnel remained in central Delhi to prevent any security breach. Security has been doubled across New Delhi district and additional companies of paramilitary forces and police personnel from adjoining districts have been deployed to maintain law and order, police sources were quoted as saying by news agencies.
A few companies of paramilitary forces that were kept in reserve were also pressed into service as the situation developed, they said.

Delhi Police personnel from several adjoining districts have been deployed at key junctions, sensitive locations and around government buildings to beef up the security net.
Joint Commissioners of Police and other senior officers are monitoring the situation on the spot, while the entire senior management remains on the roads to oversee security measures, a police officer said.

“Several layers of barricades have been erected at strategic locations to regulate movement and prevent protesters from entering high-security zones,” the officer added.

The officer said they have installed barricades at several places, including near Constitution Club, Press Club of India, near Parliament, Parliament Street, Shankar Road, Jantar Mantar and several other entry points in New Delhi.

Earlier, Dipke ended his indefinite hunger strike on the request of activist Sonam Wangchuk and father of NEET student Riya Thapa, who died of suicide.
Dipke began the fast after Wangchuk was hospitalized on July 18 when his own 21-day hunger strike required medical intervention. Dipke broke his fast with a glass of juice.
In a post on X, the CJP said the father of NEET student Riya Thapa, who died by suicide, convinced Diple to end his hunger strike so that he could lead march to parliament.
