A woman protester, CJP, was critically injured in the ‘Chalo Sansad’ march on July 20 and there were reports on social media that the 21-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries. Dr Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital, New Delhi, issued a statement in this regard on Friday revealing the viral news. A July 24 health report issued by the hospital’s medical superintendent clarified that the woman was no longer on “ventilator” support. He is conscious and responding appropriately to commands, the hospital said.
A statement from RML Hospital read: “A 21-year-old female patient, who recently reported from the site of a protest-related incident in a critical condition, is undergoing treatment at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital in New Delhi.
The statement indicated that the patient was showing clinical improvement, adding: “She was successfully extubated (removed from the ventilator) almost 48 hours ago and is breathing on her own. She is conscious and responding appropriately to commands.”
Further stating that her clinical condition is currently stable, the statement said her health requires continuous monitoring while she “continues to receive comprehensive critical care under the close supervision of a multidisciplinary nursing team.”
The Jantar Mantar protests turned violent on Monday as authorities used force to quell the uprising and prevent protesters from marching towards Parliament during the ongoing Parliament session. Police used tear gas and lathi to disperse the crowd. Meanwhile, the police claimed that such strict measures were taken because the protesters turned violent and reported incidents of stone pelting.

A day earlier, the Delhi Police revealed the news of the death of a female protester through a post on the X social media platform. The police clarified that the information is false and misleading.
Confirming that the woman is alive and currently undergoing treatment, Delhi Police said: “Delhi Police urges all citizens to exercise caution while consuming and sharing information on social media. Responsible digital behavior starts with fact-checking through official channels before submitting any content.”
Stressing that reports circulating on social media claiming the death of a woman protester at Jantar Mantar are completely false and misleading, the Delhi Police said, “It is hereby informed that the woman is alive and currently admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital. The attending doctors have confirmed that her condition is stable and she is out of danger.”
Authorities further advised the public to refrain from sharing unverified claims and circulating rumours. Delhi Police urged citizens to verify information through official channels.
In another post on X, shared on Friday, the Delhi Police denied claims doing the rounds on social media that a policewoman lost her unborn child during the Jantar Mantar protest. Refuting the claims circulating on social media as “completely false and misleading”, he said: “The viral photos were taken after a police officer was injured in a stampede-like situation. The person is not married or pregnant and is currently under medical supervision.”
