Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk’s indefinite hunger strike entered its 20th day on Friday, with doctors saying his fast has reached a critical stage and warning that organ damage is possible.

Dr. Sharing an update on Wangchuk’s health, Satish Lamba told ANI, “.. It is the 20th day of the hunger strike. As of 9:30 AM on 17 July 2026, the key health parameters are as follows. Wangchuk refuses to call off the strike

The doctor’s update came when Wangchuk refused to retract his punch. Addressing his supporters earlier today, he said: “I am weak on the outside but very strong on the inside. I am sure you all are strong on the inside and outside. We need this energy for July 20 when we will go on a peaceful march to Parliament. We will go together and make our plea at the temple of democracy.” He further said, “I will stay alive until July 20th at any cost. If you do not come and July 20th is not successful, I will return as a ghost.”

He refused to call off the strike, saying ending it without any response from the government would send the wrong message. He further noted that the focus should now be on making the July 20 march to Parliament a success.
