On Friday, after his visit to Jinda, Modi will also travel to Chandigarh in the afternoon to lay the foundation stone and inaugurate various development projects worth more than ₹4,700 crore, an official statement said. He will also address the gathering on the occasion.
He will later visit Jalandhar in Punjab to lay the foundation stone and launch several development projects worth more than ₹5,470 million crowns.
India’s first hydrogen train
During his visit to Haryana, the Prime Minister will inaugurate India’s first hydrogen-powered train between Jind and Sonipat (89 km stretch), marking an important step towards adopting clean and sustainable mobility in the railway sector.
Designed, engineered and integrated in India, the train has been developed using indigenous technology that reflects the country’s growing capabilities in advanced railway engineering.
The train is powered by hydrogen fuel cell technology, which converts hydrogen into electricity to power the train. The process produces only water vapor as a by-product, resulting in zero carbon emissions during operation.
Compared to diesel trains, they eliminate exhaust emissions, lower dependence on fossil fuels and fossil fuel imports, and run with significantly less noise.
Unlike conventional electric trains, they do not require continuous overhead electrification infrastructure, as electricity is generated on board via hydrogen fuel cells, making them a clean and efficient solution. The use of green hydrogen also reduces dependence on electricity generated from fossil fuel thermal power plants, supporting India’s transition to sustainable transport.
India’s hydrogen train has a 10-car configuration, making it the longest hydrogen-powered passenger train ever developed. Its 3,200 HP propulsion system makes it one of the most powerful hydrogen-powered trainsets in operation.
HRS produced by Fluitron
While the hydrogen fuel cell and electrolyser at the Jind station were supplied by the project’s main suppliers, Medha and Green-H2B2, Fluitron manufactured the hydrogen refueling station (HRS).
The HRS at Jind serves as a vital link that safely converts hydrogen into usable high-pressure fuel for rail operations on site. The hydrogen produced by the electrolyzer is safely dosed to the locomotive via the Fluitron HRS.
A refueling technology stack consisting of a high pressure compressor system (18kg/h flow, 500bar outlet pressure), two dedicated hydrogen racks (350bar each) and an integrated fully automated fuel system management platform that coordinates compression, storage and metering to ensure consistent fuel delivery and continuously monitors safety during each refueling cycle.
“Fluitron is implementing several hydrogen refueling station projects in India as part of MNRE’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and is working with Indian Railways to implement similar systems for historic routes such as the Darjeeling, Kalka-Shimla and Nilgiri Mountain regions,” Fluitron Global Business Director Motti Thomas said in a statement.
The train will cover the distance of 89 km between Jind and Sonipat in two hours with 12 intermediate stops, news agency PTI reported.
What is the train route?
According to Railway BoardHydrogen Train No. 74010 will depart from Jind station at 7:40 a.m. on regular service and reach Sonipat at 9:40 a.m., the news agency said.
The train stops at 12 intermediate stations, Jind City, Pandu Pindara, Lalit Khera, Bhambeva, Ishapur Kheri, Butana, Khandrai, Gohana, Rabhra, Lath, Mohana Haryana and Barwasni. On the return journey, Train No. 74009 will depart from Sonipat at 10:40 AM and reach Jind at 1:00 PM stopping at the same stations en route.
The train would travel 356 km daily, making two round trips between Jind and Sonipat, each one-way journey being 89 km long. The 10-car train has 682 seats and a total capacity of 2,600 passengers. Although the train reached a maximum speed of 120 km/h during the tests, its maximum operating speed in regular service will be 75 km/h.
₹Projects worth CZK 12,470
In Jind, Modi will also launch National Highways projects worth it ₹12,470 crores in Haryana.
Prime Minister launches 157.92 km long Delhi-Amritsar-Katra fully controlled four-lane expressway (Packages 1 to 5), developed at a cost of around ₹9,680 crores. The Greenfield Corridor forms part of the 667 km long Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway.
The expressway will reduce the travel time between Delhi and Katra from around 14 hours to nearly 6 hours and reduce the Delhi-Amritsar journey from around 8 hours to 4 hours, the statement said.
The project is expected to significantly decongest NH-44 (GT Road), boost pilgrimage and tourist traffic on Shri Mata Vaishno Devi and accelerate industrial and logistics development along the corridor.
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the 33.81 km long four-lane semi-controlled Ambala-Kala Amb Highway on NH-7 and NH-344. The expressway will enhance connectivity between Ambala urban agglomeration and Kala Amb industrial belt, improve road connectivity between Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, facilitate movement of tourists to hilly areas and reduce logistics costs for industries in Kala Amb area.

The 40.60 km long Jind-Gohana Greenfield Highway on NH-352A will also be opened. The new expressway will reduce travel time between Jind and Gohana from around two hours to just 40 minutes, benefiting commuters, freight traffic and the agriculturally important Jind-Gohana region, while improving connectivity to Rohtak, Panipat and Delhi-NCR.
Modi will also lay the foundation stone for the 24.27 km long Hansi-Barwala Brownfield Highway Project, which will upgrade the existing road to a 2/4 lane configuration with paved shoulders.
The Prime Minister will inaugurate the operation of the Kurukshetra Elevated Railway Line, a major urban infrastructure project that will eliminate long-standing traffic congestion at railway crossings in the city. The project will ensure smoother movement of vehicles, improve road safety and increase the operational efficiency of the rail and road transport systems.
