Root rejected the possibility of Captain England with limited teams after Buttler resigned from the role after the great performance of the team in the Champions trophies. The veteran cricket clarified his attitude in terms of leading positions in white ball formats.
“I think the ship sailed. I made my time as a captain in England, but I’m sure anyone gets the opportunity to do it, will be extremely proud and doing a great job,” Root said.
He has his eyes for five tests against India, followed by ashes at the end of the year.
“These are the years you play for. Two of the biggest teams, two of the biggest series in which you can play as an English player. It’s something the team is used,” Root said.
“I think the building of this team – covers a lot of basics and gives a lot of possibilities to be successful in different conditions.
“I think we are able to (win ashes). I think we have to take care of things leading to it. We have to play some really strong cricket at home,” he added.
