Kerala High Court allows Tenny Joppan to be removed as accused in solar scam case

The Kerala High Court allowed the impeachment plea of Tenny Joppan, former chief minister Oommen Chandy’s personal assistant, in the solar finance scam case.

Mr. Joppan appealed to the Supreme Court to quash the entire charge and proceedings against him for offenses under the Indian Penal Code, including breach of trust, cheating, impersonation and fraud.

The court noted that an amicable settlement had been reached between the complainant Mallelil Sreedharan Nair and Mr. Joppan. The settlement was reportedly reached because Mr. Nair did not want to pursue the dispute for personal reasons.

Mr Nair alleged that Saritha S Nair and her associates duped him of crores of rupees by promising him a solar energy business partnership. Ms Nair, the prime accused in the 2013 solar scam and her former partner Biju Radhakrishnan, allegedly defrauded investors in a solar energy company they pitched. They allegedly convinced the investors by showing their connection with Chandy’s office.
