Delhi rains update: Roads waterlogged, trains delayed, Air India, IndiGo, SpiceJet issue alert amid IMD red alert | Today’s news
Heavy rains continue in Delhi on Thursday morning after a relentless downpour overnight. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued an “Early Warning” at 8:44 a.m. warning residents of more wet spells.
“Moderate to heavy rain with thundershower/lightning is very likely over parts of South East Delhi, East Delhi, Shahadra, Central Delhi, North East Delhi, South Delhi, New Delhi, South West Delhi, West Delhi, North West Delhi, North Delhi,” advisory firm NDMA said. The capital and nearby areas are on red alert by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
A red alert is in effect for several districts of Haryana, including Faridabad, Karnal, Palwal, Panchkula, Panipat, Sonipat and Yamunanagar.
Waterlogging was reported at Minto Bridge, New Delhi Railway Station, Sangam Vihar, Munirka, in Gurugram and several other hot spots. Train passengers took to social media to complain about delays in trains and metro trains.
In its latest weather bulletin, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said: “A spell of very light to light rain at many places with light rain at isolated places accompanied by thundershowers/lightning/strong winds reaching 30-40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph in the morning/morning. Another period of very light to light rain at many places with light rain at isolated places during afternoon/evening.”
Maximum and minimum temperatures in Delhi today
The maximum temperature in Delhi is likely to be -3.1°C to -5.0°C below normal and will settle in the range of 32°C to 34°C. At the same time, minimum temperatures in the capital are expected to be -1.6°C to -3.0°C below normal, hovering around 23°C to 25°C.
The Delhi airport and several airlines issued a travel advisory as the rains continued to wreak havoc, disrupting travel and daily life.
Air India issues travel advisory
“Adverse weather conditions may affect flight operations to and from Delhi,” Air India said in a travel advisory.
IndiGo issues travel advisory
IndiGo warned of delays, saying in its advisory: “Bad weather over #Delhi has affected flight schedules. We are monitoring the weather closely and doing everything we can to get you where you need to go safely and smoothly.”
Akasa Air issues a travel advisory
Akasa Air issued a travel advisory on Thursday, saying in its announcement, “Due to heavy rains and waterlogging in certain parts of Delhi, we expect slow traffic and congestion on the roads leading to the airport. To ensure a smooth travel experience, we request you to plan for a longer travel time to reach the airport on time.”
