India Weather News LIVE: After being shut down for over 18 hours, traffic on the ‘Missing Link’ bypass section of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway was restored on Monday evening. The stretch was closed after heavy overnight rains caused a landslide. The Mumbai-bound lane was closed around 4 a.m. following a landslide near the exit of Tunnel 2, the longest tunnel on the Missing Link, which crosses the Sahyadri mountain range. The highway also witnessed landslides and flooding at several other places, including the Urse Tunnel, affecting vehicular movement. The old Mumbai-Pune Highway was also affected by waterlogging.

Train service on Karjat–Lonavala section suspended due to landslides

Central Railway (CR) officials on Monday said several landslides occurred in the Karjat-Lonavala Ghat section of the Mumbai-Pune line after a whopping 600 millimeters of rain fell in the region in 24 hours, severely disrupting rail services. Officials, however, did not specify a timetable for the resumption of rail services on the vital stretch connecting Mumbai and Pune, two of Maharashtra’s largest cities. According to Central Railway, the disruption led to the cancellation of 27 trains, including four suburban services between Palasdari and Lonavala. As many as 57 trains were diverted, 19 were short-term terminated, 15 had a short origin and four were rescheduled until late Monday evening.

Four killed in landslide and wall collapse in Pune, two swept away

Four people, including three family members, lost their lives in the landslide and wall collapse. Two others were swept away in rain-related incidents as heavy rainfall lashed the city on Monday, prompting authorities to rescue or move more than 500 people to safer places. Officials said several landslides occurred after heavy rains, including one in Patan village of Maval tehsil, which claimed the lives of three members of a family. NDRF, SDRF, police personnel and local rescue teams conducted a day-long search operation after which three bodies were recovered.

Delhi CM calls for coordinated action to control waterlogging

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta issued a stern warning to officials on Monday, saying waterlogging will not be tolerated anywhere in the capital. She chaired a meeting of the District Development Committee to review monsoon preparedness, infrastructure upgradation work in city schools and management of the Kanwar Yatra. She claimed that citizens do not care which area falls under which agency, adding that they expect a permanent solution to their problems. It also directed the officials not to remain locked in their offices but to conduct field visits and assess the actual situation on the ground.
