The BJP registered its first victory in The Nilgiris by winning the Ooty constituency after narrowly defeating the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam by a narrow margin of less than 1000 votes.
Throughout the day, M. Bhojarajan of the BJP, R. Ibrahim of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam and B. Ramachandran of the Indian National Congress were locked in a close contest, with the three candidates separated by less than 3,000 votes after the last round of counting. According to the Election Commission of India, Mr. Bhojarajan won by a margin of 976 votes and received a total of 48,488 votes. INC’s Ramachandran came third with 45,658 votes.
