The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which contested as part of the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Tamil Nadu, suffered a massive defeat in the 2026 assembly elections. The party won only one of the 27 seats it contested.
In the 2021 parliamentary elections, the party won four seats. In this election, only M. Bhojarajan won the Udhagamandalam constituency by a narrow margin of 976 votes. All prominent faces of the party lost the elections. They include Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L. Murugan (Avanashi), State party president Nainar Nagenthran (Sattur), former Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan (Mylapore), BJP Mahila Morcha National President Vanathi Srinivasan (Coimbatore North).
