
At least two people were killed after a driver plowed his car into a crowd in central Leipzig on Monday, local police and city officials said.
Authorities said the incident also left at least two others seriously injured. The driver was later apprehended after fleeing the scene, police confirmed.

Local police said the suspect rammed into people in the city center before trying to flee. In a statement posted on the city’s official website, authorities said the situation was under control and that the suspect “no longer poses any danger.”
Officials have not yet released details about the identity of the driver or a possible motive for the incident.
The incident took place in a busy shopping district
The accident happened on Grimmaische Strasse, the main street leading to Leipzig’s central shopping district, an area typically crowded with pedestrians and shoppers.
An investigation is underway
Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the accident. It is unclear whether this was an accident or intentional.
