A stage accident claims the life of a worker before Shakira’s performance
The incident occurred on Sunday, April 26, at Copacabana Beach, where crews were setting up a large stage for a free outdoor concert scheduled for early May. According to local authorities, a worker got stuck in a lifting system during construction and suffered severe crushing injuries.
The official statement, loosely translated into English from Portuguese, said: “Official note – The organizers of the event confirm that an accident this Sunday afternoon (April 26) tragically claimed the life of a worker who was assembling structures for the show. First responders provided first aid at the scene and the fire department was immediately called to transport our injured person. Unfortunately, the worker died at the moment, we offer this full support at the hospital, we are in solidarity. the company and her manager, their team and the victim’s family.’
As Page Six reported, paramedics were called to the scene and colleagues managed to remove the injured man from the vehicle before the arrival of rescue services. He was given immediate medical attention and taken to the Miguel Cout Municipal Hospital, but later died of his injuries.
Witnesses described the sudden confusion when the accident happened. One account said people began running when part of the structure collapsed, trapping a worker underneath before colleagues rushed to help free him.
The concert is part of Shakira’s ongoing ‘Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran’ world tour, which has attracted large international audiences and is scheduled to continue across multiple continents until 2026.
The Rio show is expected to draw sizeable crowds, with similar large concerts on Copacabana beach attracting millions of spectators in the past.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the incident will affect the planned concert, and Shakira had no official public comment at the time of reporting.
