Rohit Sharma has stepped up his training ahead of Mumbai Indians’ possible comeback in their clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium on April 29. Rohit has been out of action since April 12 after suffering a hamstring injury during Mumbai Indians’ loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Mumbai.
Since then, Rohit has been working closely with the medical team and support staff in an effort to get back on the field. India Today has learned that the former India captain is very likely to be available for selection for the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Rohit has been training and doing the gym without any problems and the physios are optimistic that he should be available for the game. So far, he has not reported any pain or discomfort during his rehabilitation.
ROHIT HITS THE NET
Mumbai Indians rested after losing to Chennai Super Kings in Jamnagar and returned to their home base in Mumbai on 26 April. An optional practice session was held later that evening and Rohit was among the players who chose to spend time in the nets.
Rohit was joined by Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma and others in the session. The former India captain was seen batting with intent in the nets and seemed to be in good rhythm as he approached the return.
In Rohit’s absence, Mumbai Indians tried several combinations at the top of the order. Quinton de Kock scored a hundred after replacing Rohit at the top but has not made a breakthrough with the bat since then. Danish Malewar, who has partnered De Kock in the last few gameshe has scored just two runs so far and is expected to back off once Rohit returns.
The former Mumbai Indians captain has scored 137 runs in four matches at an average of 45.67 and is now very likely to be available for selection for the Sunrisers Hyderabad match.
