Armand Duplantis continued his extraordinary dominance in the pole vault as he broke the world record for the 15th time in his career. The Olympic champion cleared 6.31m in front of his home crowd at the Mondo Classic in Uppsala, Sweden, bettering his previous mark by one centimetre.
The record jump came at the World Athletics Indoor Tour Silver meeting on Thursday, where Duplantis comfortably won the competition before lifting the bar to a new world record height. After the event, the Swedish star admitted that performing in front of the home fans added extra pressure, but made the moment even more special.

“If you come to Sweden to compete against me, it will be even harder to beat me,” Duplantis said after securing the 15th world record of his career.
“There’s a lot of emotion right now. There was a little bit of extra pressure because I want to perform in a different way. To set the world record here was actually incredible.”
“This is my home. Every time I stand on the track I represent you and I feel so proud to jump for you and Sweden,” he added.
DUPLANTIS BREAKED HIS OWN WORLD RECORD
Duplantis produced a dominant performance in Uppsala, clearing 5.65m, 5.90m and 6.08m without any failed attempts to seal victory. After the competition actually ended, he requested that the bar be raised to 6.31m, a height that would have broken his previous world record.
26 year old successfully obliterated the mark to rewrite the record books. His previous world record was set at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in September.
The most recent feat was Duplantis’ 15th to break the world record since it was first set in February 2020 with a clearance of 6.17m. Interestingly, most of his record improvements came in single centimeter increments, a pattern that continued with his latest jump.

It was also a special milestone for the Swedish superstar. Although he had previously broken the record in Sweden, Thursday’s jump marked the first time he had done it indoors on home soil.
Duplantis only recently returned to competition after battling food poisoning during a performance in Clermont-Ferrand, France, in February, where he cleared 6.06m. The Uppsala meet was only his second competition of the year, making the record performance all the more remarkable.
The second Norwegian Sondre Guttormsen finished behind him with a distance of 6.00 m. The Americans Zachery Bradford and Sam Kendricks together with the Australian Kurtis Marschall cleared 5.90 m and finished third, fourth and fifth.
Named the 2025 World Sportsperson of the Year, Duplantis has now held the pole vault world record for more than six years. During that time, he also won Olympic gold medals in Tokyo and Paris, further cementing his status as one of the greatest pole vaulters in the history of the sport.
