Benjo P. Jose, a 2024 batch IAS officer, has warned civil service aspirants against falling into survival bias by blindly following the strategies of superiors. He was speaking at a session during the two-day The Hindu Civil Service Gateway 2026 held at the Jimmy George Indoor Stadium here on Sunday. “Whenever you get a strategy, test it to see if it works for you in your particular context,” he advised.
He emphasized that mastering the emotional dimension of the examination is just as important as the intellectual aspect. “A civil service exam tests your emotional strength rather than intellectual ability. Quite a few aspirants face depression due to repeated failures. People can rely on their parents and friends for emotional support,” he said.
