The Madurai High Court on Friday (April 24, 2026) ordered notices given to nine police officers who were sentenced to death by a Madurai court in the custodial death of businessman P. Jayaraj, 58, and his son J. Benicks, 31, in Sattankulam district of Thoothuk in June 2020.
Hearing the said trial, Divisional Judge N. Anand Venkatesh and KK Ramakrishnan ordered notice to the convicts: the then Inspector Sattankulam S. Sridhar; Sub-Inspectors P. Raghu Ganesh and K. Balakrishnan; Senior Constables S. Murugan and A. Saamidurai; and Constables M. Muthuraj, S. Chelladurai, X. Thomas Francis and S. Veilumuthu.
