Sarfaraz Khan is eyeing India’s comeback with a strong IPL season for Chennai Super Kings

January 28, 2026

Sarfaraz Khan believes a strong showing in the Indian Premier League 2026 could help revive his India ambitions after he was picked up by Chennai Super Kings for Rs 75 crore in a mini auction in Abu Dhabi on 16 December. The Mumbai batter will return to the IPL for the first time since the 2023 season.

One of the most meaningful aspects Sarfaraz Khan moves to Chennai Super Kings is the chance to share a dressing room with players he once only watched and admired. For Sarfaraz, the signing is more than just a professional lifeline – it fulfills a long-held personal ambition.

“It was my dream to play with the legends of this generation,” said Sarfaraz. “I played with Virat bhai at RCB. I never thought I would get a chance to play with Rohit bhai, but in the Test team I did. I never thought I would play with Mahi bhai, especially after he retired from international cricket. But after he was not sold, CSK picked me in the IPL.”

The opportunity to work closely with senior figures like MS Dhoni adds extra significance to his return to the league, especially at a time when he is trying to revive his career. Sarfaraz described the opportunity as one he does not take lightly, especially given the uncertainty he faced at the auction.

IPL seen as way back into contention in India

Sarfaraz also considers IPL as a critical platform to build momentum again and re-enter the conversation to pick India. While acknowledging the changing priorities of young cricketers, he stressed the importance of adapting to white-ball cricket without giving up on wider ambitions.

“If you look at the youngsters today, they don’t want to focus on red-ball cricket,” he said. “But white-ball cricket is also very important.

Sarfaraz believes the exposure, pressure and competitiveness of the IPL offers a clear path back into contention if the performances follow. With strong domestic numbers already backing his case, the CSK stint provides a highly visible stage for him to translate that form into an impact at the highest level.

All in all, the opportunity to learn from established stars and perform in the demanding environment of the IPL puts Sarfaraz at a crucial point. A productive season could not only revive his IPL career but also boost his bid for an India comeback built on consistency, fitness and adaptability.
