The cyber crime branch of the Hyderabad police on Wednesday (December 10) issued an alert against fraudulent messages circulating online impersonating the Reserve Bank of India and other banks. These reports claim to help users trace and claim unclaimed deposits from accounts that have been inactive for more than a decade.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Cyber Crimes V. Aravind Babu warned the public against clicking on suspicious links or sharing personal details, bank account details or OTP with unverified sources. He emphasized that RBI never sends unsolicited links asking for such information.
Eligible customers can claim unclaimed deposits only through the official website of RBI, either in their own name or on behalf of their family members. Members of the public are advised to check any suspicious reports with their bank before taking action.
Victims of cyber fraud are encouraged to report incidents immediately to avoid further losses. Reports can be made through the toll-free helpline 1930 or online at www.cybercrime.gov.in.
