The line-up of candidates for the upcoming local polls in Kozhikode district is almost complete. All major parties have announced their candidate lists for 70 panchayats, 12 block panchayats, a district panchayat, seven municipalities and a municipal corporation, except for a few seats in panchayats that are yet to be announced. Although nominations are yet to be filed, most of the candidates have already started campaigning in their respective localities.
The Left Democratic Front (LDF) is already busy organizing ward-level conventions ahead of November 20, when its state-level leaders will start campaigning. Local committees organize panchayat-level assemblies and ward-level meetings. CPI(M) state secretary MV Govindan will be in the district on November 30 for a massive rally at Pottammal.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also launched ward-level campaigns. “Our plan is to identify administrative failures in each local body and show them to the voters. We will also highlight the achievements of our members in the divisions where they have been in power. Family meetings and walks have also been planned,” said Prakash Babu, Kozhikode BJP district president. The party’s campaign is expected to heat up till November 22, after which state and central party officials will join it.

The United Democratic Front (UDF) has also launched ward-level campaigns, mainly through social media. Several candidates are also involved in door-to-door campaigning. “Our campaign will intensify once all the nominations are filed. We will start mass campaigns after November 22,” said K. Praveen Kumar, president of the Kozhikode District Congress Committee.
Meanwhile, posters of many candidates have started appearing along the roads in many divisions and the candidates have already started campaigning. Old school graffiti has also started to appear on the walls of the complex.
