Wilson Garden police on Tuesday arrested a 62-year-old man for allegedly sending threatening emails to BMRCL officials threatening to blow up the metro station.
Acting on a complaint lodged recently by Rathish Thomas, 50, assistant executive engineer (cyber security), BMRCL, the police traced the accused through an IP address and arrested Rajiv from his house in Belthur near Kadugodi.
Investigation revealed that the accused is an unemployed diploma holder suffering from mental disorder and has been under treatment for five years. It also turns out that he got divorced 15 years ago. He lived alone in a rented room and his family members, friends and relatives helped him with daily necessities.
The police registered the FIR on November 15 with the permission of the city court. First, they registered a non-recognizable report (NCR) after a complaint dated November 14 to BMRCL.
According to the FIR, on November 13 at 11.25 pm, BMRCL’s official email received an email and the accused threatened to blow up the metro station if his ex-wife was “tortured by the metro staff after working hours”.
The police called the threat a forgery and after the case was registered under Section 351 (criminal intimidation) of the BNS, an investigation was launched.
According to the police, the accused had a printing press which had shut down years ago due to losses. He has no children and has been alone since the breakup. Contrary to what was suggested in the email, his wife did not work at BMRCL. When his phone was checked, about 50 random email addresses, some news channels and newspapers, police and politicians were found. All were blocked, the officer said.
