A sub-inspector from Tekmal police station in Medak district was arrested by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials on Tuesday after he demanded and accepted a bribe of ₹30,000 from a complainant in exchange for favorable treatment in an ongoing case.
According to officials, the officer, identified as Rajesh, was allegedly seeking money to settle a case in the Lok Adalat relating to allegations of theft against the complainant and his associate. The bribe was allegedly accepted at the police station under the pretext of dealing with notices issued under Section 35(3) of the BNSS Act of 2023.
ACB officials said that when they reached the police station to nab him, he tried to run away with the cash. He ran across the surrounding agricultural fields in an attempt to escape, but was chased and apprehended. Celebrations broke out in the area after the official’s arrest, while locals burst firecrackers.
The tainted amount of ₹30,000 was recovered from his possession. Rajesh has been arrested and will be produced before a special court for ACB cases in Hyderabad, the authority said.
The ACB reminded citizens that demand for bribes by any public official can be reported through the toll-free number 1064 or through WhatsApp, Facebook and X. The authority reiterated that the identity of the complainants will be kept confidential.
