YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders on Monday condemned the attack on their party’s Hindupur office and presented a petition at the Ambedkar statue in Vijayawada demanding action against the perpetrators. They claimed that the incident reflected the deteriorating law and order situation under the TDP-led coalition government and accused the ruling parties of trying to silence the opposition.
Terming the attack as “heinous”, former minister Vellampalli Srinivas said nearly a hundred individuals vandalized the office, damaged portraits and even broke idols, all in the constituency represented by MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna. He said such violence exposed the government’s failure to protect democratic spaces.
NTR YSRCP district president Devineni Avinash also criticized the vandalism and said the attack showed that the state was witnessing “intimidation rather than development”. He warned that the incoming YSRCP government would take strict action against those responsible.
YSRCP leader Malladi Vishnu described the incident as part of a wider pattern of political attacks across the state. He accused the government of targeting opposition leaders and allowing the police system to be weakened.
At the YSRCP headquarters in Tadepalli, former MLA Y. Visweswar Reddy alleged that the police watched the Hindupur attack without intervening and later filed SC/ST Atrocities cases against YSRCP workers instead of the attackers. He held MLA Balakrishna responsible and claimed that the incident took place when he was in the constituency.
He further accused the TDP of indulging in diversionary politics citing attempts to link the death of TTD AVSO Satish Kumar with the YSRCP without proper investigation. YSRCP leaders said such incidents would not deter them from raising public issues.
