Amazon internal coder goes viral for choosing ‘grinding’ over contacts with top executives at Google, Microsoft, Walmart | Today’s news
Vyom Goyal, an SDE (Software Development Engineer) intern at Amazon shared in a social media post that he has chosen a difficult path in life despite attractive connections with top executives at Google, Microsoft, Walmart, SDE2 and SDE3 in most major tech companies. The final-year undergraduate student at BMS College of Engineering said despite his attractive profile with glitzy companies and brands, he struggles with “loneliness”.
In a viral post on X, he said, “I see a lot of students are intimidated by all the company/brand names on my profile, whether it’s on X or LinkedIn, and all they say is bro, you’re so lucky!!!!!!!”
According to his LinkedIn profile, he previously worked as an R&D intern at Samsung. Winner of JPMorgan Code For Good 2025, he is a 4-star coder on CodeChef. Counting his other notable achievements, Vyom Goyal secured the position of National Finalist in Amazon HackOn Season 5, Code with Cisco ’25. In addition, he was a regionalist at ICPC Asia West ’24.
However, all these achievements came at a cost and a disciplined lifestyle that many call “luck”. He hinted that it was his hard work, dedication and determination that brought results, stressing that during his university days he got up at 5am every day to study before classes. He voluntarily decided to put aside useless plans and follow his dreams. Vyom went on to claim that despite the emotional turmoil, he started the “grind even on bad days” time and time again.
The Delhi Public School Ghaziabad graduate further noted that he did not take a day off even on his birthday as competitions were more important to him than personal celebration. All his efforts have produced an attractive profile, but all with “various levels of brooding, narcissism and a lot of loneliness,” said Vyom Goyal as he finished the post.
In another post, he revealed that he had “all the contacts for an easy start” but chose the “grind” to earn it. He gave the following context to prove his claim:
1. Vice President of Google
2. Senior Principal Engineering Manager at Microsoft
4. SDE2/3 is mostly in all big tech companies
