Access to Mandalpatti, one of the most popular hill destinations in the state and a tourist attraction in Kodagu district, has received a boost with the opening of a newly constructed 4km road built at a cost of ₹60 lakh.
The road, constructed in the direction of Mantar Gowda, Madikeri MLA, was inaugurated by former president of Hoddur Gram Panchayat HA Hamsa on Friday. The project was initiated based on the long-standing demands of residents, villagers and jeep operators who rely on tourism-related activities for their livelihood.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Hamsa called on the residents to ensure that no illegal activities take place at the tourist site and stressed the need to preserve its ecological and tourism value. He also said that Dr. Gowda directed officials to immediately carry out temporary repairs to the damaged road leading to Kalur village, which serves public transport buses.
Rajiv Gandhi District Panchayat Raj Sanghatane President Tennira Maina said the project was aimed at strengthening tourism infrastructure while supporting hundreds of families who operate tourist jeeps to Mandalpatti. He said the road was completed within four months.
Forest department officials, local leaders, villagers and tourists were present.
