Prabhsimran Singh caught Delhi Capitals off guard as the Punjab Kings batsman became only the third player in the Indian Premier League (IPL) to smash six fours in an over. The incident took place in the final over of the over on Saturday during Punjab Kings’ successful chase of 265.
Chasing a mammoth 265, Punjab Kings got off to a flying start with Prabhsimran and Priyansh Arya setting the platform. With 92 runs on the board after five overs, Prabhsimran decided to attack Mukesh Kumar and smashed him for six fours in the over.
In the process, Prabhsimran also became the third after Prithvi Shaw and Ajinkya Rahane to achieve this feat. Rahane (playing for Rajasthan Royals) was the first batsman to hit six fours in an over against then Royal Challengers Bengaluru pacer Sreenath Aravind in 2012.
Nine years later, Delhi Capitals’ Shaw did the same against Kolkata Knight Riders’ Shivam Mavi. Prabhsimran’s innings set the tone for Punjab Kings’ chase of a 126-run stand with Priyansh Arya as the right-hander plundered 76 runs in just 26 balls, studded with nine fours and five sixes.
The Punjab Kings are rewriting the record books
Punjab Kings rewrote the T20 record books with a breathtaking batting blitz as they overhauled a daunting target of 265 runs to achieve the most successful chase in the history of the format.
KL Rahul combined grace with the ability to write a knock of 152 not out, the third-highest individual IPL score, while Nitish Rana (91) batted with authority as the duo powered hosts Delhi Capitals to a mammoth 264/2.
Punjab’s dynamic opening pair of Prabhsimran and Priyansh (43) chased down the target and set the tone for their sixth win of the season. Dropped twice by Karun Nair in the space of three balls, skipper Shreyas Iyer then scored an unbeaten 71 off 36 deliveries to get PBKS over the line with seven balls to spare. .
Incidentally, the previous most successful run in T20 and IPL history also belongs to Punjab Kings when they chased 262 against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2024. They remain unbeaten this season and top the points table with 13 points from seven games.
