More than 13 million names were removed from the draft electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in 30 states and Union Territories. If your name is missing from the electoral roll, you can apply to be included. A press release from the Electoral Commission on September 26 explains the routes and support.
It covers people left out during SIR, those left out afterwards and young or first-time voters. Here’s how to follow the measures announced by the Commission.
What to do to re-enroll?
Start by contacting the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) in charge of your area. Applications for inclusion in the voter list are processed by the ERO.
The Election Commission says people who have been left out can apply through the rolling update. This means that applications can continue after the SIR exercise is completed.
Ask the electoral office for the form applicable to your case. The press release refers to Form 6 for inclusion of omitted voters. During the SIR, the attached statement applies and has been upheld by the Supreme Court. Outside the SIR period, the forms prescribed in the Voter Registration Rules apply.
You can seek help through a special record of the electoral commission. State and county election officials, along with registration officials, must begin this drive immediately. Its purpose is to help enroll omitted persons and other eligible applicants.
If you received a notification during an ongoing SIR, check what it is about. Special measures apply to notifications that contain missing links to earlier records or discrepancies in records.
In these cases, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit houses to collect documents. He will upload the papers to ECINet for the ERO’s decision.
Persons to whom these notices apply do not normally have to attend registration offices for hearings. ERO can only order proceedings in exceptional cases. Such hearings should preferably take place online. If necessary, you can authorize an adult family member to attend on your behalf.
Other help can be sought by people living in hostels, the homeless, workers and poor people. District Election Officers must arrange sufficient assistance services or special camps as needed. These measures provide another place to turn to officials for help with enrollment.
State term
If you live in Delhi, file complaints and objections by October 30, 2026. The deadline for officials to process notices and claims is November 30, 2026.
In Maharashtra, claims and objections can be filed until October 12, 2026. Officials there have until November 10, 2026 to dispose of the notices and claims.
There are different deadlines: one for applications and the other for decisions. Follow the filing deadline relevant to your state.
The Commission states that the BLOs of Goa are visiting the omitted voters to collect the forms. Of those 97 voters, 81 submitted Form 6 for inclusion.
