₹5,000 spent on tickets, leave denied: What are employees’ rights when companies put them on PIP? | Today’s news
A Bengaluru-based employee’s rant about being denied leave by his manager after he was put on a performance improvement plan (PIP) has left people on the internet confused about employees’ PIP rights.
A PIP is a formal document provided by an employer to an employee to address performance issues and set clear goals to be met within a specified period, usually 30 to 90 days.
According to the viral post, the employee, who works for a retail-focused company in the IT capital, had booked tickets to travel home for Dussehra. However, his plans were disrupted after a performance review meeting with his manager, who raised concerns about his output and placed him on a PIP.
“We had my performance review today and he put me under PIP saying I am not delivering the expected output or performance,” the employee wrote.
“Later I asked him if I could have 2 days off so I could have some opportunity to spend time with my family. But he refused saying I was under PIP and couldn’t take any holidays,” the post read.
The employee said that the previous week he had booked travel tickets for approx ₹5,000 and was looking forward to visiting his hometown after a long gap.
“I later asked him about my holiday for 2 days to spend time with my family on this occasion. But he refused saying that I am under PIP and can’t take any holidays,” the post read.
“But they haven’t given me any written confirmation of my PIP. What should I do now? I’m really confused and stressed,” he wrote.
The post, which quickly went viral, sparked a debate about workers’ rights after being placed on PIP.
