The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has demanded the removal of TTD chairman BR Naidu after several video clips and photographs allegedly portraying him in a bad light went viral on social media.
“An individual facing such moral charges is unfit to hold the sacred and responsible position associated with Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD),” senior party leader and former TTD president Bhumana Karunakar Reddy told the media on Sunday.
“Mr. BR Naidu should resign voluntarily to protect the sanctity of Tirumala. Alternatively, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu should remove him from office,” the YSRCP leader demanded.
Mr. Karunakar Reddy dismissed claims that the videos and images were “deepfakes” and said such claims cannot be accepted without a thorough investigation.
Criminal proceedings must be initiated to establish the truth. Instead of addressing the issue, the chairman tried to accuse YSRCP of spreading the content. Attributing them to artificial intelligence without conclusive evidence was unsustainable, he noted.
In the past, even before the AI era, individuals holding high constitutional office had resigned when confronted with similar controversies, he said. During the YSRCP tenure, then Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy removed actor Prithvi from his post, he recalled.
