Youths allegedly tonsured by mob in Perumbavoor accuse police of bias

Three youths who were recently subjected to public humiliation by a group of people after accusing them of smuggling drugs in Perumbavoor on Saturday (July 11, 2026) confronted the police.

The youths, whose heads were forcibly tonsured by a group of local people, alleged that the police were helping the accused to weaken the case.

Gokul Deepak of Manjappetta, Albin Shaji of Kandanthara and Mohammed Alfas of Manjappetta said they would approach the National Human Rights Commission for the police to look into the case. They were addressing the media in Perumbavoor a day after the Perumbavoor First Class Court granted bail to the six accused arrested in the case.

They claimed that although more people were involved in the attack, no action was taken against them.

The trio were allegedly ambushed, stripped, publicly humiliated and forcibly tonsured by a mob who accused them of supplying ganja to a schoolboy. The youths were subjected to a public trial on the premises and inside the soda factory.

Sindhu Deepak, mother of Gokul Deepak, said her son was being maligned on social media as a cannabis dealer and a thief after the incident. Albin Shaji’s mother Jaya Shaji and Mohammed Alfas father Mohammed Sherif also attended the press conference.

Meanwhile, District Superintendent of Police (Ernakulam Rural) KS Sudarshan said that the police immediately arrested the accused in the case. He said if more people were involved in the incident, action would be taken against them.
