Unknown Miscreants on Wednesday (April 23, 2025) lit several houses in two Kuki villages Manipurova’s manipurova Kamjong, district bordering myanmar, which made the authorities impose a ban.
Most of the villagers were gone and cultivated their fields when Miscreants attacked the villages of Gampal and Haiyang in the morning. The villages are close to the Myanmar border.
The district judge Kamjong, Rangnamei Rang Peter, said that the limitation according to section 163 Bharatiya Nagarik Surraksha Sanhit was deposited because such disorders could lead to serious violation of peace, endangering public peace and introducing the risks of human life and property.
The order, which is applicable in two villages and its surroundings in the district of Sahamphung’s subdivision, banned the movement of any person outside their residences and any other act or activity that could disrupt the law and order in this area.
Several organizations Kuki-ZA, including the organization of Kuki Inpi Manipur and Kuki students, condemned the incident and demanded the immediate reconstruction of both villages, proper rehabilitation of affected families and fair compensation for the losses they suffered.
They also demanded the deployment of a reasonable number of “neutral security forces” staff to ensure the safety of the villagers and prevent further violence, in addition to supplies of the requirements, including food, medical assistance and shelter to moved or affected.
“These abominable attacks terrorized innocent Kuki civilians and again disrupted the already fragile peace and stability in the region,” the organization said in a joint statement.
“We call on the government to negotiate with immediacy, impartiality and integrity. The inhabitants of the Gampals, Haiyang and the wider Kuki community deserve not only protection but also justice and peace.
Manipur, under the government of the President since 13 February, is trying to recover from the wounds caused by the ethnic conflict between the Kuki-Zo and Meitei communities, which broke out on May 3, 2023.
The state has the history of such conflicts between different communities. One of the bloodiest was the Kuki-Naga conflict at the beginning of the 90’s, which required more than 1,000 lives.
