In the midst of a growing progress over the merger of elementary government schools with low performance, the Uttar Pradesh government (July 31, 2025) issued clarification and said no schools would be permanently paired and no school is more than one km from home students and added that the number of students or seating will become insufficient.
“Approximately 10,000 schools have been identified for pairing and this process, along with school divorce if necessary, will be completed in the next week. Schools with less than 50 students are considered to be pairing. In Lucknow.
The Minister added: “All schools (1,32,886), which we have under the Ministry of Basic Education, will remain fully functional. If the distance of the schools that has been merged is more than 1 kilometer and students face any inconvenience, then all these schools will be again not retained,”.
Singh, who was concerned about loss of jobs, said: “All sanctioned contributions will remain intact, including these heads. The roles of teachers and chefs will remain intact. In fact, no space is removed. Experience such as class interaction, mutual learning, group activities, games and project tasks. The integration of these students into adequately registered schools gives them a complete educational atmosphere, “he said.
President of the Samajwadi Party (SP) Akhilesh Yadav claimed that the government was forced to decide for opposition pressure and protest. “Returning the decision on the merger of the school is a major victory of the” PDA Pathshala “movement. The right to education is and will remain inseparable. This is the moral defeat of the anti-educational BJP,” Yadav wrote on X.
UTTAR Pradesh has launched a plan to merger schools with less than 50 students, with close educational facilities to make the education system more functional and more viable. As part of the consolidation plan, students from these schools will be accommodated in nearby facilities to ensure their further education. The decision faced the back sheets of many teachers and opposition political parties that dubbed this decision as against the poor.
