X Cockroach Janta Party account seized in India, says founder Abhijeet Dipke | Today’s news
Cockroach Janta Party’s X account has been seized in India, its founder Abhijeet Dipke said days after he launched an unofficial political campaign.
Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a satirical political collective that emerged last week, broke the internet with over 6,000 sign-ups until its X account was seized in India. CJP’s X handle had 165.5K followers.
While CJP’s X handle says it was denied in response to a legal request, the Instragam account was active with 12.6 million followers as of filing this report.
The platform, which started as a joke after Chief Justice of India Surya Kant described young, unemployed Indians as “like cockroaches”, has already generated more than six thousand registrations and has more Instagram followers than the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the world’s largest political party in terms of physical membership.
The online campaign was launched by Dipke on May 16. Dipke has just completed his Masters in Public Relations from Boston University in the US.
CJP’s name is a play on the language of India’s ruling party, the BJP, and its website satirically claims to be the “Voice of the Lazy and Unemployed”.
The CJP’s manifesto demands include demands such as a ban on post-retirement Rajya Sabha seats for chief justices, 50 percent reservation for women in Parliament without increasing the strength of the House and a 20-year ban on cross-dressing.
According to Dipke, the party has so far received 6,000 registrations. CJP’s Instagram account has crossed 12.3 million followers, many millions more than the Bharatiya Janata Party – the world’s largest political party in terms of physical membership. BJP has 8.7 million followers on Instagram.
