WPL 2027: Sophie Molineux lands big payday, 15-year-old Uma Kashvi makes script history

Sophie Molineux emerged as the biggest buy in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2027 auction, while 15-year-old Uma Kashvi grabbed the headlines after being picked up by Delhi Capitals at the Grand Hyatt in Kochi on Wednesday, October 28.

A total of 25 players were sold in the auction as the five franchises looked to strengthen their squads ahead of the upcoming season. Australian all-rounder Molineux attracted a bidding war between UP Warriorz and Royal Challengers Bengaluru before UPW secured his services for Rs 1.10 crore.

Molineux, who was part of RCB’s winning campaign in 2024 and recently took over as Australia captain, entered the auction at a base price of Rs 50 lakh.

WPL 2027 Auction Highlights

Kiran Navgire was another big buy, with Delhi Capitals securing the Indian batter for Rs 75 crore. Gujarat Giants got wicket-keeper batsman G Kamalini for Rs 40 crore while RCB signed Australian left-armer Jesse Jonassen for the same amount.

UMA KASHVI MEANS HERSELF

The auction also provided a major moment for young Indian talent as Delhi Capitals signed 15-year-old Uma Kashvi for Rs 10 crore. Her selection highlighted the opportunities the WPL offers to budding cricketers, giving them a chance to share the dressing room with established international stars.

Delhi also signed Scotland spinner Kirstie Gordon and uncapped allrounder Nazma Khan for Rs 10 crore each. Meanwhile, Gujarat Giants have secured Irish all-rounder Orlo Prendergast for Rs 30 crore. However, the Capitals did not sign a goaltender after releasing Lizelle Lee with Mamatha Madiwala as their only option.

NAVGIRE, KAMALINI AMONG OTHERS WILL BUY

UP Warriorz were among the busiest teams and signed eight players in the auction. Along with Molineux, they brought all-rounder Sneh Rana, Australian all-rounder Grace Harris and wicketkeeper Sushma Verma to India for Rs 30 crore each. Scotland all-rounder Kathryn Bryce, Manali Dakshini and Sahana Pawar joined for Rs 10 crore each while Asha Sobhana was signed for Rs 30 crore.

Mumbai Indians focused on strengthening their Indian contingent and signed Disha Kasat, Latika Inamdar, Bharti Rawal, Sanika Chalke and Akshita Bhagat for Rs 10 lakh each. They also secured Shweta Sehrawat for Rs 20 crore.

RCB have added depth with Jonassen, Tejal Hasabnis and South African all-rounder Chloe Tryon signed for Rs 30 crore each, while Vrinda Dinesh has joined for Rs 10 crore. Gujarat Giants also picked up Kamalini for Rs 40 crore and Prendergast for Rs 30 crore while Samaira Raghav was signed for Rs 10 crore.
