Mumbai airport system outrage: 18 flights delayed, 3 cancelled, DigiYatra hit, here’s what authorities said | Today’s news

Operations at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) remained affected by a technical glitch recently. The incident took place on Tuesday evening and affected several flights between 19:00 and 21:00. While some faced delays of an hour or more, several were cancelled, Hindustan Times reported.

Traffic at the Mumbai airport was affected

According to Flightradar24, 44 passenger flights were scheduled to depart at the time of the outage. Reportedly, 18 flights were delayed by an hour or more and three were canceled. The two flights remained on the ground until 10:37 p.m., well past their scheduled takeoff.

IndiGo and Air India flights were affected.

Not only flights, but all other operations were also affected, prompting airport officials to go into manual mode. Check-in desks reportedly slowed down, while automated electronic gates at the terminal stopped working. It is also reported that the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel cleared the passengers one by one as the DigiYatra was not functioning.

CSMIA spokesperson reacts

However, in a statement, CSMIA spokesperson Adani Enterprises said: “Mumbai airport experienced a temporary network disruption on Tuesday evening and teams have implemented manual handling measures to minimize inconvenience to passengers and maintain continuity of core airport operations. There has been no impact on the airport and flight operations so far.”

MIAL did not share specific details, including how long the outage lasted.

Earlier, PTI reported that flights at the Mumbai International Airport were operating with an average delay of 50 minutes for their respective departures. The news agency said a total of 327 flights were delayed until about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. Of these, 13 percent of flights were reportedly canceled.

Meanwhile, Adani Airports is currently working on a phased redevelopment of Terminal 1 of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA).

The redevelopment aims to increase annual passenger handling capacity by about 33 percent, from 15 million to 20 million, according to the company. The proposal will be supported by the planned shift of some flight operations to Navi Mumbai International Airport.
