
Ahmed al-Rawi, Prime Minister of Houthi controlled in Sanaa, was killed in an Israeli air strike, Iranian supported by Houthis today confirmed on August 30.
According to a statement by the Israeli Army on 28 August, “precisely hit the military goal of the terrorist regime of Houthi in the area of Sana in Yemen”.
Rebels’ statement said that al-Rawi, who had been Prime Minister, led by Houth since August 2024, was attacked together with other officials of his government during a regular seminar aimed at assessing the activities and performance of the administration in the previous year.
In May, Trump’s administration announced an agreement with Houthis to stop air strikes in exchange for stopping attacks on transport. The rebels, however, explained that the agreement did not cover the stopping of attacks on the goals they considered to be associated with Israel.
Who was Ahmed al-Rawi?
Ahmed al-Rawi has been Prime Minister Houth Prime Minister since 10 August 2024.
Father Al-Rawi, Ghaleb Nasser al-Rawi, was a prominent political figure that was killed at the age of 70. Al-Rawi himself participated in politics and served in various key positions from 2000 to 2015, such as the CEO and Chairman of the Local Council of the Khanfar district, Vice-Chairman of Governor Al Mahwit, and Governor Governor Deputy Governor Abyan.
He became the governor of Abyan Governonge and in 2019 he was appointed to the highest political council led by HOUTH, a manager for the Houthi controlled area in Yemen. Al-Rawi often praised groups of resistance in the Middle East, such as Hezbollah in Lebanon, depicting them as a symbol of resistance against what he referred to as a “Zionist enemy”.
Meanwhile, at the beginning of this week, Israeli air strikes focused on several places in Sanaa, killed at least 10 people and injured 102, according to the Ministry of Health and local officials Houthi, PTI reported.
Houthis started missiles and drones in Israel and attacked ships in the Red Sea in solidarity with Palestinians during the Israeli conflict with Hamas in Gaza.
In the reprisal, Israel, along with the American coalition, he launched strikes in Houth-Held areas in Yemen, including Sanaa and the strategic port city of Beneida. The Israeli bomb attacks were provided by Sanaa’s non -operative airport in May.
