Who is Parvesh Verma? Delhi PWD Minister Involved in Tilak Nagar Road Inspection Controversy | Today’s news
Delhi Public Works (PWD) Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma is in the limelight after a confrontation during a roadside check in the Tilak Nagar area, where a video circulating on social media appears to show him slapping a man who was recording the exchange.
The incident, which took place on Sunday, September 27, involved Verma, AAP’s Tilak Nagar MLA Jarnail Singh and Sahib Singh, who is associated with the MLA’s social media activities.
Delhi Police said on Monday that five complaints have been received in connection with the dispute. One was filed by Sahib Singh while two complaints were filed by PWD workers against Jarnail Singh and others. Two more complaints were filed by BJP workers regarding the alleged ill-treatment of Verma.
Police said complaints have been lodged at Vikaspuri and Tilak Nagar police stations and the matter is being investigated.
Who is Parvesh Verma?
Parvesh Verma is a BJP politician and currently serves as a cabinet minister in the Delhi government. According to the official profile of the Delhi government, he holds the portfolios of OWD, Legislative Affairs, Irrigation and Flood Control, Water and Gurudwara Elections. He is also a BJP MLA from New Delhi Assembly constituency.

Verma was born on 7 November 1977 in Delhi. He is the son of former Delhi Chief Minister and BJP leader Sahib Singh Verma. He studied at Delhi University’s Kirori Mal College and later completed an MBA in international business from FORE School of Management in Delhi, according to his profile in Parliament.
He entered electoral politics in 2013 when he was elected to the Delhi Assembly from Mehrauli. He moved into national politics the following year after winning the West Delhi Lok Sabha seat. He retained the constituency in the 2019 general election and served as its MP until 2024.
In the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, Verma returned to the state legislature from New Delhi. He defeated AAP national convener and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the constituency. He subsequently joined the government in Delhi headed by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
What happened at Tilak Nagar road check?
The controversy started during Verma’s inspection of a newly constructed road in West Delhi. AAP MLA Jarnail Singh was present at the site and questioned the quality of the road, with videos showing him pulling out sections of the newly laid surface by hand.

Sahib Singh, who was filming the interaction, was allegedly slapped by Verma. Video of the confrontation shows Verma pulling the man’s phone before appearing to slap him. The man later filed a criminal complaint with the police.
Verma defended his conduct while questioning the AAP’s account of the confrontation. In his latest video statement on Monday, he claimed that the person who confronted him was an AAP “dick” rather than a member of Generation Z. He said he had come to the spot after receiving complaints from Jarnail Singh and wanted to explain the work being done by the Delhi government.
“So now Kejriwal has entered her field. He swore false oaths on his children, made his elderly parents sit on wheelchairs on polling day to play the emotional card, beat up the MP in Sheesh Mahal and beat up the Chief Secretary of Delhi – all this has become a habit for them. And now they are relying on the pretext of ‘Z’ VerGen.”
“Kejriwal ji, the person who came in my circle yesterday was not Gen Z; he was your crook. Your MLA got there with some gaunas. I wanted to gently explain to him the work we are doing. If you have any complaint, I went there to address and resolve those complaints,” he further said.
AAP, meanwhile, demanded action against Verma.
Arvind Kejriwal alleged that the minister had slapped the young man when the condition of the road was being inspected and called for his arrest. Verma denied framing the incident and accused the AAP party of misbehaving at the venue.

“Rekha Gupta government made a road in Lakhangarh yesterday and people there showed how the road is broken with hands only. One of your ministers was available there and slapped a Gen Z guy,” Kejriwal said.
“Arrest the minister today. Whoever was involved in corruption on this road, arrest him. If you do these things, you won’t have to do reels at night or go to bhajan clubs. They will automatically join you,” he added.
