Neha Bora, a Gen Z leader and president of the All India Students’ Association (AISA), marched towards Dilli Haat on Saturday after several protesters were detained in and around Jantar Mantar during the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest against CEC Gyanesh Kumar, who demanded his resignation over alleged irregularities in the electoral roll.
She was later detained near INA Market along with Communist Liberation Party of India National General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya, activists Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav.
“I’m in custody. The movement isn’t. People are gathering at SAFDARJUNG FLYOVER right now. Get up if you can. If they stop you, sit where you are and hold the line,” she wrote on X.

Neha Bora is an Indian activist and PhD student from Khatima, Uttarakhand. She serves as the national president of the All India Students’ Association (AISA) and has participated in student and youth protests.

Bora is from Khatima, Uttarakhand, Neha Bora is an Indian activist and PhD student who serves as the National President of AISA. She also got involved in India’s Gen-Z movements.

Bora entered the national spotlight for her participation in the 2026 protests at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. The demonstrations called for the resignation of former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over allegations of examination paper leaks and irregularities in the National Entrance Test (NEET).
Along with climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, she also went on a 23-day hunger strike in the country’s capital. The long fast was said to have had a significant impact on her health.
Bora also participated in a student protest linked to the CJP.
During the Sansad Chalo march organized by the CJP, she called for the resignation of Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar, alleging police brutality against students and youth protesters.

Her father served in the Indian Army, which meant she moved between different cities during her childhood. She is also a theater artist. She completed her BA from Delhi University and went on to do her MA from Ambedkar University. He is currently pursuing his PhD at the School of Arts and Aesthetics at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).
Delhi protest against CEC Gyanesh Kumar
In a video released by the CJP, founder Abhijeet Dipke was heard telling police personnel who boarded the plane that they were there to be arrested, saying, “We are here to be arrested, come and arrest us.”
Before detaining them, the police personnel informed the CJP leader that they had not been granted permission to stage their protest at Jantar Mantar.

Dipke alleged that the CJP leaders were treated like criminals during their detention. He said that even former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had not behaved in such a manner and termed the prevailing situation as a “dictatorship”.
According to PTI, former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and CPI(M) MP John Brittas were also taken into custody by the police.
Youtuber Dhruv Rathee was detained from his residence in Gurugram’s Sector 56 on Saturday ahead of the CJP’s planned demonstration at Jantar Mantar. Rathee, who lives abroad, traveled to India to participate in the protest against the CEC.
Around 1 pm, several protesters jumped the barricades and pelted stones at security personnel near Akashwani Bhawan on Imtiaz Ali Marg, injuring two policemen. Security personnel quickly detained the protesters.
Ahead of the CJP demonstration, security measures were beefed up across the city, with several layers of barricades erected along the roads. More than 30,000 police and paramilitary personnel were deployed and 45 metro stations were closed. Authorities have also stepped up security checks at Delhi border crossings, railway stations, bus terminals, hotels and other sensitive locations.
The extensive security arrangements came after the Delhi Police refused permission to protest against the CEC, citing insufficient notice and concerns over compliance during the previous demonstration.
