
Goa Congress leader Dr. Ketan Bhatikar died after being bitten by a snake, news agencies reported on Friday, May 15, quotimg the police. Dr. Bhatikar, who was the face of the party during the recently canceled Ponda assembly election
The incident took place on Thursday evening when Bhatikar (38) was on his way to Dandeli village in Karnataka.
“For some reason, Bhatikar reached Karmal Ghat on the Goa-Karnataka border when he was bitten by a snake. Primary health center in Goa’s Dharbandora where doctors declared him brought dead,” a police official was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
Congress candidate for Ponda
Bhatikar, a renowned physiotherapist, was the Congress candidate for the Ponda by-election, which was annulled after the High Court verdict. He moved High Court against the HC order through a special leave petition pending before the apex court.
Leaders from across the political spectrum have condoled Dr Bhatikar’s death.
“Deeply shocked and saddened”
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said he was deeply shocked and saddened to hear about the untimely death of D Ketan Bhatikar.
“His passing is a deep loss to the medical community. My sincere sympathies go out to his family and friends at this incredibly difficult time. May his soul rest in Sadgati,”
Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao said he was deeply saddened by Bhatikar’s passing.
“His unwavering dedication to public service will always be remembered. My condolences to his family, relatives and friends in this time of sorrow. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Alemao said.
The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee he paid tribute to her party leader and expressed his condolences to the bereaved family as well as his friends and supporters.
