Edinburgh Airport has advised passengers that flight operations have resumed after a brief disruption on Friday morning caused by computer problems in the air traffic control system.
“Flights have resumed following an IT issue without an air traffic control provider,” the airport said on X (formerly Twitter).
In an earlier statement issued at X, the airport said it had stopped all arrivals and departures due to an IT problem with its air traffic control provider.
Shortly after, the airport resolved the issue. According to Flightradar24, citing Eurocontrol, arrivals to Edinburgh were suspended until at least 2pm local time.
The airport also advised passengers to check with their respective airlines for the latest flight information.
Edinburgh Airport is the busiest airport in Scotland, serving approximately 15.7 million passengers in 2024. It is also the sixth busiest airport in the UK.
Global airline outages
The brief closure of Edinburgh Airport is adding to a wave of global airline outages after India’s biggest airline, IndiGo, canceled more than 400 flights on Friday due to a combination of operational disruptions, including pilot shortages, changes to the winter flight schedule, technical glitches and adverse weather conditions.
According to IndiGo, flight cancellations are expected to continue for the next two to three days as the airline makes efforts to stabilize flight schedules, Mint reported.
