Who is Barbara Bush? Former President George’s daughter donates millions to Democrat James Talarico’s Texas Senate campaign | Today’s news
Barbara Bush, daughter of former US President George W. Bush, drew attention after donating $2,500 (approx. ₹2.3 lakh) to a political action committee in support of Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico in Texas.
The contribution was made to Lone Star Rising PAC on September 23, according to its third quarter 2026 filing with the Federal Election Commission (FEC). The committee is backed by Talarico, a Texas state representative running for the U.S. Senate against Republican candidate Ken Paxton.
The donation is notable because of the Bush family’s long association with the Republican Party and its political influence in Texas. Although the amount is relatively small compared to other PAC contributions, campaign finance observers have pointed to its disclosure as a potentially symbolic gesture.

“She didn’t put it on a (501)(c)(4) in which her contribution would be completely anonymous. She gave it to a PAC that reports all the money in and out,” Cates said.
He described the contribution as relatively small compared to the total sums involved in the race, but said it could be symbolic in indicating where parts of the Republican establishment might be leaning.
Who is James Talarico?

Talarico earned a bachelor’s degree in public administration from the University of Texas at Austin in 2011 and a master’s degree in education policy from Harvard University in 2016. Before entering politics, he worked as a high school English teacher and as its executive director of an education nonprofit.
The contest has drawn national attention because Texas is traditionally a Republican stronghold and the outcome could affect the balance of power in the U.S. Senate.
Talarico criticized the influence of wealthy donors and corporations in American politics. But he also said he would not unilaterally give up perks in campaign spending while Republicans continue to rely on political action committees.
